My name is Jessica, and I'm the creator behind MsArtsyMom. I am a disabled artist and writer, and I'm currently focused on abstract acrylic paintings that are created by pouring paint onto the canvas to create beautiful unique designs. As far as my credentials, I have an MFA in figurative painting, and my training is primarily in oil portrait painting. I was also an art teacher for 14 years before I had to stop due to my disability.
Back around 2014, I began to have numbness in my hands and feet. It made it very difficult for me to do my job, and I went through several years of medical tests to finally be diagnosed with an autoimmune disease and several other chronic illnesses. These conditions made it hard for me to hold a paintbrush in order to do the fine detail work that portraits require.
After I realized I could no longer do the type of artwork I loved, I gave up on art altogether for around 9 years. I didn't even pick up a sketchbook, and I felt disappointed that I wasn't able to do something that I was good at any longer. I went through a deep depression, and these were some of the hardest years of my life, since art had often been very therapeutic for me.
Then in 2023, I found fluid art out of the blue by watching a wonderful female artist on YouTube. I thought maybe I could just do it for fun to get back into creating. I took the leap and bought some supplies, not knowing what I was doing. I was terrible at first! I couldn't understand how to get the paint to flow properly in order to get the same results as the artist I was emulating. I grew frustrated, and I almost gave up entirely.
However, I decided to continue on, and I began to really love the techniques and the process after a while. Around the end of 2024, I decided that I would create a YouTube channel in order to document my process so I could see if I was improving or not. I really just wanted to do it for fun and see if I could help others by showing them how far I had progressed.
Fast forward to now! I am still creating YouTube videos, and although my channel is quite small, I enjoy helping people who want to get started in fluid art. Nearly all of my paintings are documented on my channel, so be sure to take a look and see your favorite painting come to life.
